WINDSOR, Vt. - Windsor field hockey’s season ended Thursday afternoon with a 2-3 loss to fifth-seeded Stowe in a quarterfinal at home.
The fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets scored twice, but Stowe found one more. It was a reversal of the teams’ meeting on Oct. 9, when Windsor won 4-1 at Stowe, one of the Yellow Jackets’ best results of the fall.
Windsor finishes 3-7-2. Its wins came against Otter Valley (4-1 on Sept. 25), Fair Haven (1-0 on Oct. 2) and Stowe, and the Yellow Jackets earned a home playoff game as the fourth seed. Windsor closed the regular season with losses at Brattleboro and against Bellows Falls.
Coach Blake Holden knew this would be a young group. “We graduated a large group of seniors last year, leaving us with a young team, but I am excited to see what they can do this year. They are eager to learn and have a lot of determination to go a long way this season,” he said before the season.
For the second straight fall, Windsor’s season ended in the quarterfinals. A year ago the Yellow Jackets went 4-8-2. The program says goodbye to a senior class that included returners Grace Blanchard, Olivia Dube, Aurdrey McFarland and Izzy Mouse.
Stowe improves to 6-9 and moves on to the semifinals next week.
That wraps up the day for Windsor High School sports. We’ll see you next time!
