THETFORD, Vt. - Oxbow freshman Braelynn Parsons finished 15th in her division race Saturday at the state cross country championships at Thetford Academy, running 23:38.8 in her first season of high school racing.
Coach Katherine Chobanian saw it coming before the season. “Braelynn Parsons is new to HS racing but (is) a veteran runner. She is looking strong in the preseason,” Chobanian said.
Junior Jake Danis, the Olympians’ top boys runner, was 27th in 19:52.0, and sophomore Bentley Rivers was 59th in 22:45.9. Rivers was one of the runners Chobanian singled out for his preseason improvement.
Oxbow is a small team without the numbers to score, so the focus is on individual races. Last fall the Olympians had a top-five finisher in the girls race at states.
Oxbow: Girls, 15. Braelynn Parsons 23:38.8. Boys, 27. Jake Danis 19:52.0; 59. Bentley Rivers 22:45.9.
That wraps up the day for Oxbow High School sports. We’ll see you next time!
